Best Family Vacation Yet

We spent Easter weekend in Grand Cayman and had the most amazing time.  It was a quick trip, but an easy one.  It's a three hour direct flight from Houston and the hotel was 10 minutes from the airport, so very easy.  Avery again did pretty great on the flight.  On the way home she was a bit more cranky, but that was because we were trying to make her sleep and she didn't want to (although she was very, very tired).  Once we gave up forcing her down she was absolutely fine.

We arrived late Thursday afternoon just in time for a nice walk on the beach.  Nana went with us, which Avery loved!  Jason and I liked it too since we were able to spend some one-on-one time together.  It was nice - in the evenings we'd take a drink down to the beach and listen to the ocean and even had dinner alone one night.  Grand Cayman's Seven Mile Beach might be one of the most beautiful beaches I've been to.  It's definitely my new go-to beach.

We were curious how Avery would do with the water given her reluctance during swim lessons, but she did great.  On our walk Thursday evening she did not want the water to come up to her feet and insisted she walk far enough away from the ocean that it wasn't going to happen.  By Friday morning she was curious and within 30 minutes she was sitting in the sand with mommy & daddy building sand castles with the water running up to her (daddy was building, Avery was destroying).  Before lunch that day she was in the water with us and having a blast.  We were in the ocean and pool each day and she did great.  She kept saying "pool. pool".  I guess I know what Daddy can buy her for her birthday.

Pool time with daddy.

The food in Grand Cayman was amazing!  Grand Cayman is known as the Culinary Capital of the Caribbean and pretty much everything we ate was delicious!  We had two amazing dinners; one at Lobster Pot and the second was a wonderful date night at Luca.  Avery was with us at the Lobster Pot and she made sure we'd never forget that dinner.   The story is too gross to tell, but it reminds me a lot of our trip to Seattle

On Easter Sunday Avery hunted Easter eggs on the beach.  I think she was a little disappointed the eggs didn't have treats in them though (which she learned on Wednesday at school that eggs are supposed to have treats).

Very brave of me to post a picture in my swimsuit, but I'm in all of Avery's Easter egg hunting pictures.

All and all it was a wonderful, relaxing family vacation and Avery is her momma's daughter when it comes to loving the beach.  I did learn next time to bring a proper camera; the iPhone is not a substitute for quality family photos.   I also learned Avery loves: playing in the sand, walking barefoot on the beach, water, plantains, pools and dogs on the beach.

It was the most content she has ever been playing by herself.
